VIPKID has been the BIGGEST blessing in my life recently.  If you are contemplating becoming a VIPKID teacher, continue to read! I am going to give a quick rundown of the company, what you can expect and answer some general questions.  If after you read this, you still have some questions, feel free to e-mail me here: martiwarner.mvnu@gmail.com or add me on facebook! Delightfully Peachy

#1- VIPKID is NOT a scam.  It is a legitimate company that is growing exponentially every month.
#2- Requirements: (NO, you do not need to speak Chinese! :D)

  • a current resident of the US or Canada.
  • have experience working with kids who are between the ages of 5 and 12.
  • have experience teaching phonics or ESL. (Preferred, but not required)
  • have a Bachelor’s degree or at minimum an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

#3-Hiring Process:
Go to this address https://www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=3939233 and click “sign up”.
Create a BREIF resume. Be all-inclusive to show your experience, but don’t be wordy and repetitive.
When this is finished, if your resume is accepted, you can schedule an interview and demo lesson.
If you pass the interview you will complete two mock lessons.
*The hiring process takes about 7-10 days*
#4-What to Expect:
Demo Lesson:  It is part of your interview that is conducted with a Chinese individual who will act like a 5year old child for the duration of the lesson.  This lesson will be approximately 20 minutes.  The material will be provided for you to download and you will have some time to review it before teaching.
Mock 1: This lesson will be 20 minutes long.  It will be conducted by a current VIPKID teacher.  These teachers will give you pointers, tips and advice that you need to apply for your next mock lesson.
Mock2: This lesson is also 20 minutes long.  It is two parts. In the first part, you are teaching a lesson geared toward younger students. (much like the previous lessons from demo and mock 1) The second part is a lesson for older students.
#5- Advice:

  • Timing is important! Use a timer, or the stopwatch on your phone to keep an eye on time.
  • Run over the slides prior to the demo and mock lessons! Take a few notes to feel more comfortable.
  • SMILE! Smile, smile, smile, smile! 🙂 You want to look inviting.
  • Speak slowly and enunciate.
  • Reach out to the person who gave you their referral link! The best way to understand is to ask.  (That being said, if you use my referral link….email me or facebook message me anytime! I will walk you through all of this individually!)
  • HAVE FUN!!! ❤

#6-Payment:
If you are hired on, you will be paid once a month.  You can expect to make anywhere from $18-22 an hour based on experience, classes scheduled and incentive pay.  I have been with VIPKID for a month.  I am averaging 40 classes a week.  There have been incentives (extra money making opportunities) both months I’ve been with the company. (The end of March and beginning ofApril)  With the April incentive I have already made an extra $210 and there are still two and a half weeks left of the incentive!
You can set up direct deposit and use an ACH number to avoid transfer fees.

#7-Teacher Community:
After you are hired there are MANY facebook groups to join.  These groups are LIFE savers.  You can join facebook groups that are specific to your region and even meet other VIPKID teachers!  The company has just reached 10,000 teachers! Check it out!

#8-Hours:
There are no required amount of hours that you need to have available.  This means it is ideal for stay at home moms, working before a full-time position, working part-time to make extra cash, wanting a weekend gig, needing a summer position, or if you want to make it full-time…that’s also possible! 😀
–*In order to understand the hours available to work, you need to compare your time with Beijing Time.  I am EST and I currently work from 6am-10am Monday-Friday.  If I want to make extra cash, I will work late Friday night, Saturday morning and Sunday. ((That’s what I mean about having opportunities to make full-time money!))
–*Summer Hours Vary.  From my understanding, around July and August, students are out for summer break.  This means students are more likely to take more English classes and the opportunity to teach more classes arises!
#9-When Can I Expect My First Class?:
This varies from teacher to teacher.  When I first started, I had 39 classes my first week.  My profile was up and running at the right time for parents to view, I had my welcome video completed, my education fixed on my profile and I was ready to rock and roll.
**The steps RIGHT after getting hired can be a little tricky! Be sure to ask me if you need help! You can also reference this checklist!**
1. Email: education@vipkid.com.cn to ask for a Fresh Desk Login
2. Once you have received your Fresh Desk login, go to https://vipkid.freshdesk.com/support/login  and click “submit a ticket”.  You will need to draft a ticket that includes your years of teaching experience  and certificate information. (teaching license, TESOL certificate etc.)
3. DOWNLOAD THE APP!!! (I cannot stress this enough!! The app is the BOMB (dot) com!!!)  When you are on the app, you can upload your own welcome videos, type in your college information, add your own profile pictures, view your schedule etc.
Here is an example of my intro video!:

#10-Stay Connected:
Reach out to me. Find a facebook group. Ask questions. Ask questions. Ask questions.

Please let me know if you need anything! 🙂  In the meantime, I will be teaching my happy little heart out and enjoying the freedoms this company has provided to me.  ❤

Wishing you a Delightfully Peachy Teaching Experience!
